How to Throw the Ultimate Galentine’s Day Party

January 8, 2021

It comes once a year, thanks to our fictional BFF Leslie Knope from Park and Rec.

Galentine’s Day!

February 13th has become the ultimate day of celebration for women, affectionately referred to as Galentine’s Day. What started as an episode of the beloved NBC sitcom has transformed into a full-on American holiday.

Women worldwide gather together around Valentine’s Day to celebrate the bonds they share with one another—while leaving their partners at home for the night. In the Parks and Rec episode that started it all, Leslie Knope (Amy Pohler) takes her “lady friends” out for brunch and gives them all heartfelt gifts.

Think, “girls night out” times 10.

Although Galentine’s Day was originally a brunch celebration on Parks and Rec, women are adding their own flair to the holiday by throwing Galentine’s Day parties.

A Galentine’s Day party can really occur anywhere, at your home, out at a restaurant, a banquet hall if you’re that extra, or in this year’s case – on zoom from your living room, thanks COVID.

We’ve put together the Ultimate Galentine’s Day party guide for you, so whether it’s your first time organizing Galentine’s Day for you and your girls, or you’re a seasoned pro, these ideas are sure to keep the gals coming back year after year.

Cute Invites

A Galentine’s Day party, or any party for that matter, isn’t complete without a proper invitation!

Today, most people are invited to events via text message or e-vite. So sending a traditional, snail-mail invite is fun again! Not the most creative? No worries! Check out GreetingsIsland for free, printable invites that will get your girls ready to party!

All Pink Everything

It wouldn’t be a ladies-night without all pink everything.

Oh, and glitter!

You can DIY a lot of charming decorations, plus places like Target and Oriental Trading have Galentine’s Day specific decorations if you’re short on time or patience. Similar to Valentine’s Day, hearts and XO’s are popular for Galentine’s Day decorating.

Along with gold glitter, and did I mention… pink. You can get a cheap, solid-colored tablecloth from a dollar store and sprinkle glitter and confetti all over it for a fun place setting. From heart-shaped plates to decorative X’s and O’s, make sure your setup is filled with pink and sparkles!

Goodies for the Girls

What’s a party without cute favors?

Keep it simple, but make it cute! Champagne flutes filled with candy and heart-shaped notepads make fabulous Galentine’s Day party favors, or wrap up some festive cookies to go!

Of course, you could also go all out, and crochet flowers for each of your girls like Leslie Knope did.

Other great favor ideas include Sugarfina Champagne Gummy Bears, a cute DIY S’More kit, or stick with traditional Parks and Rec inspired items like these mugs for your gals.

Keep in mind, these things are all mail friendly, so feel free to send or drop off some goodies to your favorite gals if you can’t get together!

Don’t Forget the Flowers

You’re sure to be the hostess with the mostess with pink arrangements all around!

Not only are fresh flowers, fun and fragrant, they also make nice take-home treats for your guests, and are the perfect heartfelt surprise for when we can’t physically get together.

Don’t forget to support local florists by shopping with Lovingly for your Galentine’s Day arrangements. Bright pink gerbera daisies and garden roses beautifully arranged in a fun vase really sets the mood for your girl’s night in (or out).

No Matter What...

Galentine’s Day can (and should!) be celebrated regardless of if you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day traditionally with a romantic partner!

So grab your best gals and let them know how much they mean to you this Galentine’s Day!
